Habitat for Humanity
Habitat is a
well-known organization that has been providing families with low
cost homes for over 30 years. Each year Holy Trinity joins forces
with a group of other churches, forming a Lutheran coalition that
provides funding and workers to build a house for a deserving
family. We have participated in building six homes thus far and
will begin on our seventh this winter. Contact the church office for
more information on this important ministry.

Mexico Mission
Thursday, February 12 -
Monday, February 16, 2009 will be the next Mexico Mission. We will travel
to Rocky Point to build homes for those in need. We have been doing this
since 2005. We caravan in rented vans to the Rocky Point camp. We meet
Mexican families who have been selected by local Pastors in Rocky Point.
We mix cement by hand to pour a strong foundation for a two room home. We
hammer and saw; we pull chicken wire and add stucco; we tar and shingle a
roof. We build without power tools because most of our families in Mexico
do not have electricity. We attempt to feel empathy with our families by
camping and being out of our comfort zone. In the end, we come away
drained but truly blessed.
If you would like to show
your faith by being Christ in the world in service to others, this
mission is for you. The cost to you is five days of your time and
$200 - $300. The fee is based upon the amount raised by our group.
The fee includes transportation, food, water and Amor Ministries'
site fees. Amor Ministries is the coordinator of this mission in
Mexico - see
amor.org for further information. There will be several
meetings and a bible study prior to our departure. Diana Braaten is
the Holy Trinity coordinator; for further information about the
mission contact her at:

Food
Pantry
On the first Sunday of each
month, Holy Trinity collects non-perishable foods to be donated to the San
Marcos Wellness Center. This food is then distributed to our neighbors in
need of a little extra help. Donations may be left in the Food Box on the
patio or in the church office.

Christmas in July
The last Sunday in July we
celebrate Christmas, but instead of buying gifts for each other, we donate
to Lutheran World Relief, Cristo Rey, the Navajo Mission and provide
backpacks, school supplies, and hygiene items to be distributed by
Lutheran Social Ministries. Watch the newsletter and bulletin for more
information.

Angel
Tree
A highlight of Holy
Trinity's Advent season is the Angel Tree program. Members "adopt" a child
in need and provide gifts for them from a list that is provided. This
gives us an opportunity to share Christmas joy by giving gifts to those
who need them most.

Thanksgiving Pies
Each year members of Holy Trinity
donate pies to the San Marcos Wellness Center to help provide
holiday meals to those that would otherwise go without. For
information on how you can help with this ministry, contact the
church office.
